The design of the project is intended to encourage and create pedestrian access from the Financial District, onto the Greenway, and to the waterfront by activating the pedestrian streetscape with cafes, stores, and gathering areas, opening the view of the Harbor and creating a more interactive space between the waterfront and the Greenway

The proposed project, at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and East India Row, is also heavily transit-oriented, adjacent to the MBTA’s Blue Line, a short walk to the South Station bus and rail terminal, and walking distance to water taxis and commuter ferries.

The largest taxpayer on the Greenway, and a long-term investor, The Chiofaro Company is committed to sustainable design and construction practices. The project will be designed to achieve LEED certification and optimal energy efficiency. It will be a national model of commercial green technology.

The project will be designed with 70,000 square feet of upscale urban retail facilities such as a gourmet grocery and other premier retail stores.

The project has significant economic benefits as well, including $16 million in tax revenue, and an estimated $10 million linkage payment.

The project will create 3,000-4,000 union construction jobs and over 3,000 permanent jobs.

I envision Chiofaro’s plan as an incredible opportunity for this city.  The revamping of this parcel of land would provide more visibility to the Harbor and will turn both the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the Boston Waterfront into impressive assets for the city.
